10 Oct World Exclusive Bier at Lowlands Grand Cafés
Like its literary namesake, Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo, Brouwerij Bosteels newest bier is at once complex and exciting, rich and layered yet approachable and, more importantly, a genuinely memorable journey. But unlike the famous, “mysterious Count,” this bier holds nothing back…
The brewery’s first new bier release since 2002, it’s not only exclusive to our Lowlands Grand Cafes in the United States, but globally. That’s right—this bier hasn’t even been bottled yet, and the brewery hasn’t yet said if they’ll ever be kegging it again. In other words—this could be your last chance to experience this bier on draught.
And while we’re on the subject of experience, here’s what you can expect from this behemoth of a Belgian Strong Dark ale: upfront, you’re met with big notes of caramel, vanilla and milk chocolate balanced by a touch of boozy heat and a mellow, round, nutty malt base reminiscent of a Madeira, robust Sherry, or rich Port wine. Pops of plum, fig, and other dark, dried fruits from the distinctly Belgian yeast keep the bier from being too cloying or sweet, as does its silky, finely carbonated mouthfeel. At 12.5%, this bier is meant to be sipped and savored—just as you would an after dinner wine or nightcap-—not tossed back.
